Zombie Radio began as my own personal jukebox.  When ShoutCast came out, I figured it might be cool to broadcast into cyberspace. It was fun then, and it still is.   I like telling people that I run a radio station. :)

All the music you hear on this station is what I personally like.   If you are into it too, that's great, kick back and enjoy ... feel free to play air guitar, sing into your comb, or just bang your head.

I grew up in the 80's, when metal was just coming into the public eye, and it was a great time to grow up in general.  I was never satisfied just listening to what I heard on the radio. Bands like Ratt, Twisted Sister, Motley Crue, etc. were all over the radio and I like them to this day, but I was much more interested in the underground.  I liked to buy records by bands that were unknown at the time, and blow my friends minds by playing this loud, aggressive music that they've never heard, and definitely never would have on the radio.

I was introduced to metal at the tender age of 10 when my eldest sisters' boyfriend would play AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult records alot.  Sure, I like other types of music, but there's nothing like a good double-pedal bass drum and a screaming guitar to get you moving around.
Welcome to the soundtrack of my life ...
TURN IT UP LOUD!!

The original banner.   I made this animated gif (in 2 parts) with some basic tools in Photoshop.  The zombie cartoon came from a rather violent comic book cover that my friend Carlos had.   I think it was just called "Zombies" .. not sure.   The call letters (WZZZ) were dropped about the third year I was on the air.   Pretty pointless, since this isn't an over-the-air broadcast, I wouldn't need them.  It's just for fun, so who the fuck cares anyway, right?

I made this one many years later, 2006 I think, based on the cover from a compilation called "Serial Thriller Volume 6"

I made this one this year (2008) when I realized that I had been doing this for 10 freakin' years... my words exactly (LOL)

I just made this one last night (7/13/08) for the new site design.   Yes, that's my beloved guitar .... in case you are wondering, I use a font called "Zombie Holocaust" for most of the site ... pretty cool, right?

Questions & Answers

DRAWING THE LINE:  Someone asked where "the line is drawn" when it comes to content on the station.   Well, you won't hear rap, country, dance, house, etc. here... but if it's rock, hard rock or metal.... then yes....

"DINOSAUR" ROCK:  If you don't think Judas Priest, AC/DC, KISS and Black Sabbath influenced Slipknot, Slayer, Killswitch Engage, etc.. then, you can move along to another station.   We'll be fine without you.   :)

DEATH / BLACK METAL:  This is a case-by-case basis.  If the track is nothing but incoherent screaming and repetitive riffs,  I won't play it.

THE "SEATTLE" SOUND:  This was an important movement toward reviving metal in the 90's.  Bands like Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc.. will be heard here.

VAN HALEN: Without Dave on vocals, it's not really Van Halen.  Sammy Hagar is a top 40 rocker, but will never be metal.  Gary Cherone doesn't justify a comment.  Eddie's ego is too big for any  vocalist, so the band with suffer in Top 40 hell.   You won't hear any Van Hagar  here.   Flame all you want, Van Halen ceased to exist after "1984" ... period.

METALLICA:  They fucking sold out, and everyone knows it.   After making shitty music specifically tailored for radio for 20 years, they may be back from the abyss.  The new one, "Death Magnetic" is something of a return to form.   We'll see what Rick Rubin can do for them.   Cliff Burton must have been spinning in his grave.

ZOMBIE*RADIO STUDIO:  LOL, no not really a studio, per se, just my computer room at home.   Here's a picture ... see if you can spot all the illegal activities in this photo (snickering to self)

LOSSLESS TRACKS:  These are songs that are so great that they need to be heard as clearly as possible.   These were ripped from their original CD to WAV format.   They will sound just like the original CD.   Of course, you'll be hearing them here at 128k, so nothing's perfect ... but this will be as clear or clearer than any FM broadcast .... enjoy!

If you have a question about whether or not a band or song is played, write me at zombiman@nc.rr.com .. i'll answer them and post the answers here.   It's your station, but it's just a little more mine.  :)
